Weekly email issued 20th June 2020

Hello, all Barlaston Church Family & Friends,

I felt that God was really speaking a word to me and to each of us at Barlaston this last week. It started when I read the first verses from Psalm 96:

1 O sing to the Lord a new song;

sing to the Lord, all the earth.

2 Sing to the Lord, bless his name;

tell of his salvation from day to day.

3 Declare his glory among the nations,

his marvellous works among all the peoples.

I use the Bible Reading Fellowship (BRF) New Daylight for personal reflection and Sally Welch’s words on Tuesday are very apt.

‘Changes to our patterns of life are sometimes welcome, other changes can bring discomfort and suffering. We might struggle to adapt finding it hard to locate God within the new circumstances in which we find ourselves.’ This was written last year, long before Covid was known.

During Covid and the Lockdown, life has changed for all of us. Some have actually enjoyed the chance to be at home, work in the garden or tidy the garage and office. Others have found it difficult and lonely. Some have not been well and coping with an illness or medical condition at this time has not been easy. For a few, loved ones and friends have passed away.

Last Wednesday 22 people decided to come along to Church to pray. As they entered the familiar building they quickly noticed that things were different. Social distancing meant that seating arrangements were not the same as they used to be. The old way had become a new way and it is quite likely that the old way is a long way off returning.

During these times we can find comfort in remembering what God has done for us in the past. Confident of his presence we can look for ways of singing new songs (and new ways) that will fill us with hope for the journey ahead.

The church will be open on Sunday for an hour from 10.30am for prayer. It will be very different from a ‘normal’ Sunday, with no service, refreshments or children’s activities. You will be very welcome, but do not feel you have to be there. I know for many staying safe is their choice and staying at home is right too.

Stewart's Reflection for the coming week.

Have a look and see what Mosaic are doing

And why not pop into Tots and watch their videos.

Take care, blessings,
